Bronze Wahatchee Award

Award Roster

The Bronze Wahatchee Award recognizes those individuals who have voluntarily made long-term contributions to the Signal Regiment and the Signal Corps Regimental Association (SCRA).  Those individuals have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity, moral character, and selflessness.

(This is a SCRA award and is not a US Army Signal Regiment Award)

Medal:

This award is a Bronze medallion, suspended from a ribbon to be worn around the neck.  Bronze, a durable metal, represents the durability of service in support of the Signal Corps Regimental Association.

Front of Medal:  Centered on the medal is an engraving of the American patriot Nancy Morgan Hart. Inscribed across the top is “United States Army Signal Corps” and along the bottom is the word “Wahatchee”, a Cherokee word meaning “War Woman.”

Back of Medal:  Imprinted with the awardee’s name and the serial number of the award, surrounded in the laurel wreath of victory. Under the name is inscribed the words “for SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS to the Regiment”.

Purpose:

The Bronze Watachee Award recognizes those individuals who have contributed long-term significant contributions to the Signal Regiment and the Signal Corps Regimental Association.  As a service award, length and level of service is a significant factor when considering candidates for this award. This award is presented to volunteers, spouses, and supporters of the Signal Corps and SCRA.  It is not intended for SCRA members.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrate numerous recognizable acts of service over a significant period of time which promote the SCRA and the US Army Signal Corps
  • Be of outstanding moral character and demonstrate the qualities of a professional Signal Corps Professional 
  • Nomination must be submitted by an active member of the SCRA

An SCRA membership is not required to receive the Silver Watachee award.

– Examples of activities which may be considered:

    • Serving as a Family Readiness Group Leader supporting members, families, and other volunteers
    • Exposing the Regiment to new audiences and connecting likeminded individuals who are the same morals and values of Signal Corps members
    • Fostering camaraderie and esprit de corps among all Military and civilian members, spouses, and other volunteers 
    • Organizing social events for SCRA members to exchange ideas and experiences
    • Establish/manage programs for the betterment of Regimental members including scholarships, fundraisers, and job fairs
    • Providing career guidance to civilians about opportunities in the Signal Corps or Providing SCRA members guidance on opportunities in the DoD Civilians or commercial opportunities for spouses or transitioning military members

Approval Process:

  • Nominator documents achievements for submission
  • Nominator confers with the local chapter and the candidate to confirm if they have any awards
  • Nominator submits award recommendation through the local chapter process or coordinates with the National Awards Coordinator for direct submission to National Awards Committee
  • Chapter Leaders processes the award nomination with a COL of the Regiment or through the National Awards Coordinator
  • Once approved by National Headquarters, select the medal options and purchase through the awards store links provided by the National Awards Coordinator
    • Awards approved by a COL of the Regiment are subject to screening by the National Awards Committee and may be denied if determined the level of Service is not consistent with the approved criteria. The National Awards Committee reserves the right to revoke the approval authority of a COL of the Regiment who does not adhere to the Awards Criteria and spirit of the award.

Presentation of the Award:

  • Awards should be presented at the earliest opportunity in an appropriate setting.
  • Chapter Presidents should present the awards when possible
  • Presenters should make every effort to make the presentation professional and memorable (read a citation, take photos, etc.).
  • Appropriate Settings include Signal Balls, Award Ceremonies, Retirement Ceremonies, Change of Command/Responsibility, Chapter Awards Banquets, or Orange Calls.

Admin note: We request applications to be submitted at least 30 days before the desired presentation date to allow for voting and processing.

    • If submitted within 30 days, you will be charged a $25 express fee at the time of payment
    • Please keep in mind if the award is going to an APO address, it will take longer for shipping
    • Payment will not be required until the application has been approved by SCRA Headquarters

We cannot accept award submissions via email. The application below is the ONLY method to nominate someone for this award.
