Brevet Colonel Award

Award Roster

The Brevet Colonel Award recognizes those non-government, government civilians, or uniformed members of the armed forces, other than those of the Signal Regiment, who have made significant contributions over a period of time to the Regiment or the Association. Specifically, such individuals could be federal, state, or local government officials, military members from a different department or branch, industry partners, or community leaders deserving special recognition. The justification for this award is based primarily on an individuals’ long-term support of the US Army Signal Regiment and the Signal Corps Regimental Association.

Medal:

This award is a Bronze medallion, suspended from ribbon worn around the neck.  Bronze, a durable metal, represents the durability of the relationship between the awardee and the Signal Corps.

Front of Medal:  Centered on the medal is an eagle with its wings spread, holding a sheath of arrows.  The eagle faces the feathers in the sheath, representing a view toward peace.  Inscribed along the top of the medal is “U.S. Army Signal Corps Association” along the top and “BREVET COLONEL” along the bottom.

Back of Medal:  Imprinted with the awardee’s name and the serial number of the award, surrounded in the laurel wreath of victory.

Purpose:

The Brevet Colonel Award recognizes those non-government, government civilians, or uniformed members of the armed forces, other than those of the Signal Regiment, who have made significant contributions over a period of time to the Regiment or the Association. Specifically, such individuals could be federal, state, or local government officials, military members from a different department or branch, industry partners, or community leaders deserving special recognition.  This award is not meant for members of the SCRA or US Army Signal Corps.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrate numerous recognizable acts of service over a significant period of time which promote the SCRA and the US Army Signal Corps
  • Be of outstanding moral character and demonstrate the qualities of a professional Signal Corps Professional. 
  • Nomination must be submitted by a separate member, who is an active member of the SCRA

An SCRA membership is not required to receive the BC award.

– Examples of activities which may be considered:

    • Educating Signaleers and/or the SCRA on new technologies through Professional Military Education or other events such as Leader Professional Development (LPD), or Orange Calls
    • Exposing the Regiment to new audiences and connecting likeminded individuals who are the same morals and values of Signal Corps members
    • Fostering camaraderie and esprit de corps among all Military and civilian members of the Signal Corps (Orange Calls)
    • Organizing social events for SCRA members to exchange ideas and experiences
    • Establish programs for the betterment of Regimental members including scholarships, fundraisers, and job fairs.
    • Updating curriculum with operational experience for the betterment of the Regiment and the Army Lessons Learned
    • Sharing operational experience with SCRA members to enhance the operational and historical relevance of the US Army Signal Corps and SCRA
    • Provide relevant innovations from academia and/or industry for the betterment of the Regiment and Army
    • Providing career guidance to civilians about opportunities in the Signal Corps or Providing SCRA members guidance on opportunities in the DoD Civilians or commercial opportunities
    • Capturing, recording, and publishing lessons learned preserving the history of the Regiment

Approval Process:

  • Nominator documents achievements for submission
  • Nominator confers with the local chapter and the candidate to confirm if they have previous awards
  • Nominator submits award recommendation through the local chapter process or coordinates with the National Awards Manager for direct submission to National Awards Committee
  • Chapter Leaders processes the award nomination through the National Awards Manager
  • Once approved by National Headquarters, select the medal options and purchase through the awards store links provided by the National Awards Coordinator

Presentation of the Award:

  • Awards should be presented at the earliest opportunity in an appropriate setting.
  • Chapter Presidents should present the awards when possible.
  • Presenters should make every effort to make the presentation professional and memorable (read a citation, take photos, etc.).
  • Appropriate Settings include Signal Balls, Award Ceremonies, Retirement Ceremonies, Change of Command/Responsibility, Chapter Awards Banquets, or Orange Calls.

Admin note: We request applications to be submitted at least 30 days before the desired presentation date to allow for voting and processing.

    • If submitted within 30 days, you will be charged a $25 express fee at the time of payment.
    • Please keep in mind if the award is going to an APO address, it will take longer for shipping.
    • Payment will not be required until the application has been approved by SCRA Headquarters

We cannot accept award submissions via email. The application below is the ONLY method to nominate someone for this award.
